Month Seventeen: Little Man Emerges

Beckham turns 18 months old tomorrow. Or more easily calculated: one and a half years! This past month (his 17th) has marked many developmental changes for Beckham. I didn't realize how much of a "little adult" a toddler could be. For example, the other day he had disappeared into my office where normally I would find him sitting on my trumpet case (kid-size sofa), contentedly reading to himself. But this time he was up on my office chair, seated correctly, mouse in hand, gaze focused on the screen, tapping away at the keys. (And no, I promise we did not stage him there for this photo.) Another example is how he likes to watch his Baby Einstein videos, or read books, from the comfort of our sofa; a rather high sofa he can now crawl up upon. At the park he used to dig in the sand, oblivious to other kiddos, but now he is all about watching the older ones, and emulating all they do. Beckham loves to ride his little trike around our block, stopping every now and then to explore a driveway or some inviting porch steps. Daily he snags Matthew's brush off the sink and attempts to self style his very out of control hair. And of course, he talks more now, and gets so excited when I ask if he wants his favorite food. "Chheeeezzzeee," he says, dancing about in anticipation. Such a busy month for our little one -- who suddenly doesn't seem so little anymore.
