The Big Five: Happy Anniversary!

Yesterday marked our fifth anniversary. GO TEAM TAYLOR! We celebrated by leaving Beckham in the hands of a fantastic sitter and stealing away to an adult restaurant; a restaurant with great ocean views, white table cloths, and no high chairs. Sheer bliss. During dinner we recounted our past five years together and were blown away by how much has happened, and how much we've changed. From geographical relocations, to having a child, to changing jobs, and the altering of our perspectives. After seven months in San Diego, the kicking and screaming that accompanied our reluctance to live here has subsided. Don't assume the worst: we haven't given up. We are not defeated, nor are we hopeless. But we have surrendered -- in a really good way. God's hand clearly directed our move here, but it isn't God's style to override our free will and manipulate our decisions. We have to choose to allow Him to lead, and for the longest time I was way too busy pouting and moping about. Long story short, the spiritual growth both Matthew and I have experienced living here is phenomenal. And we can either choose to embrace the change and growth (and ultimately experience God's blessings) OR we can continue to hold fast to our goals, our desires, and well, wallow a bit in our self-induced misery. No more wallowing! I am so blessed to have a wonderful husband, a delightful son, and an awesome God who does truly care about my happiness. As the great Ben Franklin said: "Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time; for that's the stuff life is made of."
